"I was chosen
to direct the Christmas TV Special, "Whiz, the Elf Who Made Christmas Special,"
to be filmed on the stage of the Annie Russell Theater at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida,
1978. Our make-up artist required "life masks" be cast of each of the actors
faces, from which latex elf masks would be produced. Son Matthew, then 10 years
old, asked for a casting. Matt's life mask still rests between the glass shelves
of my desk, the reflection in the glass is as strong as the real mask. I rotated
the photograph 90 degrees for a more interesting composition.." Joe Hoover
